Free Agency

I've been expecting that C.C. would wind in NY for about 3 or 4 years now, so to me its really no big deal. I would like to say though that I think free agency has destroyed professional sports for all fans with the exception of NY fans.

It has made the players disgustingly rich, and subsequently driven up the price of tickets, concession, and merchandise accordingly. I personally hate free agency, and what it has done to sports.

I understand that when given the choice of millions upon millions, the players are going to sell out the home team, and that it is just business, and all that jazz.

Who is not just business too? The fans!

Fans have a lot of emotional investment rooting for their teams. Fans form relationships (very one sided of course) with their teams at a young age, and they are life long. It would be like saying marriage is just a business, although it seems to have become that.

Fans root for the hometeam all their lives and when a player leaves, I don't care what anyone says, to some degree it hurts. That was your guy; how could he leave? Oh, its just business it's nothing personal. He has to do what is best for his family. Again, I understand all that, I just do not like it one bit.

In my opinion the lack of loyalty displayed in professional sports has transcended to society as well.

Is loyalty even considered a noble trait anymore? Or is a sellout more highly respected these days?
